After months of using the Raqcop, I thought I would add my experience. I have been using Raqcop on a Symantec 1100 for about 9 months now. I really have to hand it to Dave and Brian for the excellent work they have done on this. I flashed the firmware succesfully and performed a hard disk install to start with, and had no issues. When they came out with the CF instructions, I HAD to try that out as well. I am on the current version of the CF distro and again no issues. I added advproxy and Url Filter from Marco Sondermann in order to keep the kids in line. They work flawlessly with Raqcop except for a couple of the performance graphs, but I don't think that is a Raqcop issue. The only real problem that I have had is getting my employer's VPN application to play nice with the proxy. To get around that I added a blue interface (the 1100 has 4 Intel NICs) and an additional wireless access point to the house. It worked like a charm. I got major geek cred from the systems folks at work for the setup, and now they come to me with questions!
Thanks for all the work you have done on this, it is really a nice adaptation.

The only thing you need to remember about the CF install and some addons is that with the CF installs, you are running /var/log in a ramdisk folder mounted as /ram, your html graphs also are run in ram. The Graphs are rebuilt from the rrd files after boot, everything in /var/log and cron are restored from the tarballs on boot. Urlfilter works great with either CF or disk installs. The advproxy I'm not so sure about with CF.

With a heavy proxy, you'll want a lot of ram on a CF install. Since this kernel is compiled with highmem support, you will be able to use a full 1GB with two 512 sticks. I've used various brands and types and hadn't seen a problem. Elsewhere on the internet, you'll see people complaining of only 864 or thereabout being seen, in those cases the kernel was not compiled with highmem support for whatever reason I would never know. Even though the Ali Chipset can handle more ram, I have tried two 1GB sticks to see if it would do 2GB but it only sees 512MB per stick.
