I have a RAQ3 that I am having trouble getting RAQCOP working. I have updated the ROM to 2.10.3-ext3, pulled the drive and put it in my Windows box, downloaded WinImage and tried to load the WinImage VM Image of RaqCop (raq-2.0.0-20GB-vmdk.tar.gz) First problem I had was my drive was a 15gig drive so it would error out at 76%. No big deal I had a 40 gig IDE laying around so I used it. Loaded up the VM image and put it in the RAQ. Held the "S" button and the root to hda4. I got a kernal panic. So after messing around a while I looked at the ReadMeFirst.txt and saw to set the root and boot partition to hda1. I have done that, I think, and here are the last few lines of the boot:

NET4: Unix domain sockets 1.0/SMP for Linux NET4.0.
VFS: Cannot open root device "" or 03:01
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:01

Any ideas on what I have done wrong? Thanks for any and all help. I am a Linux novice at best.   Charles

You definitely have to use hda1 for the single drive images. The Raq3 defaults both root and boot to hda1 after a reset. To reset, hold the E button while powering on, it will display on the lcd when the reset is complete.

I will update the how to install page when I get a chance. That's for 1.4 and it throws people off.

You will need a serial console cable for Raqcop2 to set up networking. Once booted, log in as root on the serial console, run depmod, then run setup and go to networking. Since Raqcop and IPCop 2 use udev rules and also set the mac addresses in the ethernet settings, networking MUST be set up on the machine itself. While in setup, change your host name and passwords to what you want them to be.

It's a bit more difficult to set up than 1.4 but unlike 1.4, any card can be lan-1 wan-1 and so forth and it will stay set that way. Of course many will have ppp0 as red so that is no different.

I got the system up and running. I think I had corrupted the install by shutting the system on and off trying to get it to boot on hda4. Now another problem. I have the serial cable hooked with a null modem adapter and login as root run depmod and then setup. The setup screen comes up and I select hostname then I start getting garbed characters and it gets to the point I can't make any sense of the screen. I have used hyper-terminal and putty to try and both give me garbage. I have tried a bunch of different emulations and no luck. What is everybody else using to set this up? thanks Charles

Use PuTTY if using Windows. PuTTY is free and works as great in serial as it does with ssh. The Cobalt needs 115200 baud, 8 bits and 1 stop bit, no parity and xon xoff as the control. PuTTY has never required more info input initially than that. The terminal type which may be needed by other programs is VT100.

I've never had much luck with HyperTerminal and frankly never really did like it.

In Linux I use Minicom.

Got the system up and running. Tried different null modem adapter, different cable, different gender bender with no luck. Then I tried a different computer and putty worked like a champ. Must be something funkey with the serial port on the laptop. Any way it is up and going. Thank you for your help Dave.  Charles  Grin
